Tin cans with lids I have found are a better way to store certain items than using plastic containers which can crack or fade making them look unsightly. During the winter months, I have one in my garage that I store my birdseed in. The seed stays fresh which the birds appreciate. I don’t have a wood stove but my neighbor does. He uses a tin can to store the hot ashes he removes from his stove. This prevents the ashes from being blown around and starting a fire.
Gift Giving Ideas
I have also seen them used as a gift-giving item. You can fill them up with candy or whatever else you would like. Some of the lids are see-through so it adds to the presentation of the gift-giving. You can give out Valentine’s candy, for instance, in tins that you have decorated with paint or stickers or glitter.
If you are into upcycling things, then using tin cans from products you buy and cleaning them up and making can crafts out of them is a great idea, too. But, there are so many options for buying tins in bulk from online merchants that I find this is the way to go. They don’t cost much and you don’t have to wash and clean them which is time-consuming.
