Sometimes simple is best and that may be your best first step when it comes to whitening your teeth. Many people swear by baking soda as one inexpensive method that can make your smile a few shades brighter. Simply apply a small amount of baking soda to a wet toothbrush and brush as you normally would. Be careful not to brush to hard as the soda is abrasive. Use until you see the results you are looking for. Once you have achieved your desired results go back to using your normal toothpaste. Never use baking soda as a daily whitener as you run the risk of wearing down your enamel.
If baking soda doesn’t give you the results you want you can try one of the other products listed below. As with anything individual results will vary but as teeth whitening products have come a long way there’s a good chance you will be able to find something that works for you.
After following the whitening procedure that works best you are going to want to keep your teeth looking great. Brushing your teeth twice a day keeps them clean which helps keep your dazzling smile. Don’t forget to floss and follow up with a good antiseptic mouthwash that will help keep plaque at bay. Plaque is a major reason tooth enamel becomes dull. You can use a whitening toothpaste to help maintain the whiteness but only use as needed and no more than once or twice a week. Tea, wine and coffee are major contributors to the staining of teeth and while you are probably not going to quit drinking them you can help lessen their effects by rinsing your mouth out with water after indulging in them. Using a coffee stirrer to sip your drink can lessen the contact your teeth have with liquid.
