I’ve started giving my Clarrisa bonito flakes for cats because I believe it is a healthier treat. If you have been tempted to give your cats human-grade katsuobushi or dried fish flakes, stop. I can tell you that while most any cat, even the most finicky (like mine) will eat them up gleefully, they are way too salty for your pet.
Since these bonito flakes are from fish, they do contain a degree of salt. Having said that, make sure to buy specially formulated bonito flakes for cats. These products should only contain bonito and nothing else. I’d suggest buying them online. You can be sure that they will arrive to you in great shape and be perfectly fresh for your pet. Make sure to buy a product that has good reviews, naturally, and that also comes from the USA, if you can.
You can add the flakes to wet or dry cat food. My cat has a preference for wet food so I simply mix a bit of the bonito with some water and add it to her wet food. She loves it and, as I said, she is picky when it comes to food. I find that she will eat flavors of the other food I buy more readily with the flakes than without them.
